Sparks Agriculture School opened in 1909 to provide the first high school for Northern Baltimore County. The first athletic competitions were in track & field and basketball. The 1915 yearbook records the pictures of their first championship teams. Soccer, women's basketball and field ball were added in the 1920's. Baseball was played in the1930's with field hockey and volleyball making its appearance after World War II ended in 1945. Sparks won many championships in these sports with the women's field ball and basketball teams dominating from 1934 to 1942. Volleyball teams were strong at Sparks and continued strong with the opening of Hereford in the fall of 1953.
